Beauty Blender Dupe? | Real Techniques, Makeup Revolution, AOA Studio

After watching EmilyNoel83's video on the top 5 bottom 5 beauty sponge, I am really tempted to finish writing this blog post! ><
Over the past few months, I have been crazily drunk in online shopping.
I have purchased quite a few beauty sponges, which either the company claims it being comparable to the Beauty Blender or the users reviewed them being a dupe for the Beauty Blender.
The most exciting part is all the sponges I purchased, will increase in mass after being damped. B|

想寫呢篇部落格好耐,睇完emilynoel嘅youtube片,完完全全有動力寫完佢 B)
因為我買嘅平版化妝綿全部都會濕水變大,完全同佢top5嘅共通點一樣!!!

~~~~~Little Sneak Peek of the Dupes~~~~~
The most 'comparable' sponges in market? :)
Therefore, I asked Jacq to lend be her Beauty Blender (BB) and Real Techniques (RT) Miracle Complexion Sponge for some photo taking.
I didn't use the two sponges from Jacq for applying foundation or any other products.
But I did test out the other sponges I purchased.
為咗呢篇部落格,我問咗我家姐Jacq借咗BB同RT Sponge影相~~~
Price for BB: USD$20@, ~HKD$160@
Price for RT: HKD$87, 2 pack at iHerbs (link) [can use code JBF362 to save some money]
Damp Sponges
I believed most of you are familiar with the similarity and differences between the BB and RT Sponge, as most reviews in the Internet are talking about them.  There are also loads of YouTube videos comparing the two.
As per my understanding after reading the reviews, the RT sponge is the most comparable sponge to the BB but not exact dupe.  For the price, it's a good deal and it's not necessary for people to use USD$20 for a sponge.
相信睇過下網上嘅評論,都知RT係無BB咁好,但性價比就贏晒!
First up, they are the beauty sponges from Makeup Revolution.  I purchased them in a bundle of three during their Instagram 300k followers 30%off sale.
Makeup Revolution係卓越都有得賣,但應該未有化妝綿~
The Bundle I got: Applicator Bundle including a FREE Pro Blend Sponge GBP£11.98 ~HKD144 (link)
Dry Beauty Sponges (with a Maybelline Baby Lips as a reference for the size)
As I mentioned above I haven't tried out the BB or RT ones for applying my foundation, I would mainly only compare the other 4. :)
1) Texture/Bounciness
I would say the BB definitely feel the softest.  For easier illustration I will just use a line to rank their softness and bounciness (in descending order):
BB > RT > MUR(pink) > MUR (white) > AOA > MUR (black)
質感:BB係最軟同最彈嘅~最簡易清晰咁表達就用咗一個递减次序排列 ;P
2) Application
I found it really easy for me to bounce around my face using the four 'dupes' blending my stick foundation :)  Really Really So Convenient B)
用佢地上妝好方便又易用!
3) Dry to Damp (or vice versa)
When I first used water to wet the MUR(pink) sponge, it squeezed out pink water!! I was really afraid, but then Jacq told me the original BB also do squeeze out pink water for the first wash.
I found it harder to damp the AOA, MUR(black) sponges evenly, you need to squeeze them really thoroughly to make sure the whole sponge gets wet.
As for squeezing out all the excess water, like many other reviews have mentioned.  Only the original BB is really easy for us to squeeze the excess water in one squeeze.  The others, I need to squeeze for 2-3 times to make sure all excess is gone.
Damp Sponges ;)
4) Cleaning
I think there's not much difference in cleaning a dirty sponge.  I use baby shampoo by Johnson & Johnson to clean my brushes and sponges.  Then I will let them dry overnight and leave it there for an extra day to make sure they are completely dried (especially for the humidity we have in Hong Kong).
In conclusion, I think it's really not necessary to spend USD$20 for a beauty sponge as you need to throw it away after 3-6 months due to hygienic issues.  With the frequency in interchanging the sponge so frequently, I will definitely go for the cheaper alternatives, as they just do the same job and get it done quite pleasantly~
Til next time!! (^o^)/
